One of the first thoughts we all have when planning a wedding is about the decorations or the vibe. Then we wonder, well, how in the world can I afford all of this?
Below are some simple DIY projects you and your family or wedding party can do together before the Big Day!
Pallet Schedule

Pallets can be found for free or at a low cost at your local
hardware and grocery stores, construction sites, farms, or
even at furniture stores. All you need to do is ask
Sometimes, you might get lucky and find some just lying on
the side of the road. Besides the wood, you'll also need paint, a paintbrush, and a garland. This project should take about
an hour. If you’re concerned about the font or potential
mistakes, Michaels sells templates you can tape up, or you
can print out the letters and create templates from printer. Pap Just be careful not to let the paint bleed through the seams.
And voila! You have a beautiful rustic sign for your guests!
Bud Vases

Over the last few years, I’ve noticed an increase in brides
choosing bud vases instead of large floral centerpieces.
I personally love the look of these mixed with candles on the
tables! The bases can be anything you find or have on hand,
like mason jars or empty bottles. Thrift stores offer a wide
variety of options, allowing you to get creative! When
sourcing flowers, you can visit a local flower stand or even
your grocery store to save on costs. If you’re near Amish
communities, they often have beautiful flowers at great
prices! Then, assemble your Bridesmaids to help you put
them together!
Petal & Herb Confetti

As part of tradition, wedding guests will throw rice or petals
in the air as the newlyweds walk back up the aisle after the
ceremony. Some venues might not allow certain materials to
be thrown on the property, so be sure to talk with your
coordinator or venue contact before making a decision.
Usually, they just prohibit rice. While you’re at the thrift store,
pick up an old book or sheet music that you're okay with
desecrating. You can also use plain butcher paper. The only
other things you'll need are fillers and some tape! Maybe
you've collected petals from bouquets your fiancé has given
you over the years, or there are plenty of petal confetti
options available on sites like Etsy.
Floral Candles

Candle painting and the use of varied florals have emerged
from various cultures and traditions. In Paganism, the
intention of flower petals being added to candles with
more wax can have different meanings based on the
materials used, time of year, or to honor a specific deity.
This could be a unique addition to your tables if you’re ever
looking for an excuse to add more floral elements. And it
gives you an excuse to call the wedding party over one
night for Arts & Crafts. And if you’re pagan or spiritual, it
adds an element of Earth, Air, & Fire to call the spirits to
bless your union & family for the times ahead.
Floral Pallet Wall

Out of all the DIYs I’ve suggested, this one is likely to be on
the more expensive side, depending on what you do with it.
Once again, pallets are a quick way to get a rustic look on a
budget. You can add as many fake florals as your heart
desires. The photo shows some strung on fishing wire
placed around a lovely neon sign. You can do a few different
things with the other decor too. I think it would be cute to put
a rug down and some pillows! It can also double as a
sensory-friendly area as the night goes on for kiddos or folks
who might need to step away for a minute.
Watercolor Namecards

Ever since one of my brides did this in 2023, I’ve been
raving about it to everyone I know. It’s a beautiful, timeless
craft that is not only visually appealing but also surprisingly
simple for anyone to create, regardless of their artistic skills.
To get started, gather some quality cardstock as your base,
a set of watercolors for a vibrant touch, and either some
charming stickers or a sophisticated calligraphy marker to
add your personal flair. While working on this craft, you
might want to turn on a favorite movie or playlist to make
the process even more enjoyable. Just relax and let your
creativity flow freely! This personalized touch is something
your guests will truly love and remember, making your
event even more special.
Signs, Frames, & Family Photos

Getting things printed for a wedding can cost couples
thousands out of their budget. Luckily, we live in an age
where technology is so prevalent. Canva, Adobe, and even
Docs or Word can be used to create menus, seating charts,
signs, and more. You might have to pay to use the full
extent of their services along with ink and stationery paper,
but it’ll be a fraction of the traditional cost. Frames can be
You can find them at home goods stores and Thrift stores. Talk to your family, maybe you want a table for those who are with the
stars or pay homage to the marriages that came before your
own. The options are as endless as the places to put these
around your venue.
